Seminar: Skills and Organisation Performance

Perhaps the greatest economic challenge facing the UK over the coming years is its lower level of productivity compared to other major world economies. Skills are recognised as a key to increasing productivity. However, the way skills are managed and deployed in the workplace is equally significant in explaining the international productivity gap. Skills need to be combined with the other levers of productivity (e.g. investment and innovation) and deployed effectively through good management practices. Strong and effective leadership and management are just as important as talent.
A free seminar was held on the afternoon of Friday 20th June at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, London to explore the link between skills and organisation performance. Sam Porter, Director, Perform Higher, presented on:
- The link between skills and organisational performance
- Leadership and management practices that drive good performance
- The business case for High Performance Working (HPW)
- The Challenge and Barriers to adoption of High Performance Working
- Implications for Proskills and the Skills for Business network
